WOW. I never knew how much FUN a destination family photo session would be!! I am still amazed at how I ended up shooting this session in Estes Park, Colorado all the way from Kansas City and it will definitely be one I remember forever! I'm reminded of John "Hannibal" Smith in the movie A-Team when he says "I love it when a plan comes together" ;)
Jenny (flowery dress) is a co-worker of mine at Visit KC and one day she asked me if I knew of any photographers in the Estes Park, Colorado area because her extended family was going to be vacationing there in a few months. They wanted to get family photos done with the mountains in the background (you can probably see where this is going). I told her I would ask around, but when she told me the dates they would be there, I realized that, somehow, it was the EXACT same week that I was going to be in Denver for my younger brother's wedding!! I'm an adventurous person and absolutely can't resist an excuse to get some mountain time, ESPECIALLY if it involves getting to take pictures of such wonderful people!! So, after all the wedding craziness, my little sis and I drove the hour from Denver up to Loveland and stayed with some friends. I think we got in about 11:00pm and hit the road for Estes at 6:00am the next morning in order to meet the Wilsons by 8:00. Maybe I am crazy... but these photos turned out SO much better than they would have in the afternoon when the sun was bright enough to wash out the background scenery. I'm in love with the pastel colors (thanks to the cloudy morning and Adobe Lightroom).

A sweet engagement session in the West Bottoms and Downtown Kansas City. My husband and I will be traveling to California this December to capture Kevin & Dayna’s wedding! Since they’re moving back to Cali next month, it was fun to make these images in KC since they met and fell in love here :)
This gorgeous backyard wedding in Golden, Colorado was an absolute dream :) I knew Madi and Cameron in college, but it's a beautiful thing when friendships come back around years later! It is so obvious that they are perfect for each other, and I'll think you'll see in the images that there was SO much joy from both sides of the family when it came time for them to tie the knot.
Meet my sweet friend, Emily! We played volleyball together during high school in Colorado and have had the great pleasure of reconnecting as adults, particularly because of our shared love for photography. She lives in Denver now and specializes in wedding & lifestyle photography. In fact, if you've seen the lifestyle session of my husband and I in Buena Vista, CO (the one with my pink floral dress), Emily is the one who took those for us!
Brian and Kay got engaged on the top of a mountain in Yosemite National Park at sunrise and she was eating a muffin when he popped the question. For those two reasons alone, I knew we would be fast friends :D
Ryan & Jamie celebrated their union on a hot, June day in North Kansas City. The Courtyard at Briarcliff where the got ready was the perfect spot for their first look and bridal party photos in order to escape the 97 degree heat just outside the doors. Trezo Mare Restaurant's patio space was the backdrop for their ceremony and reception and thankfully some shade was provided by the building next door.
This Northwest Arkansas engagement session was one for the books! While I'm based out of Kansas City, the Bentonville area is just a short drive away and since I have family to stay with while I'm there, I always love an excuse to spend some time in the area.
We decided shoot their engagement session at the venue where they'll be getting married this August so I could have a chance to see it.. plus it's just beautiful, so why the heck not?!? Thanks to the Holland Barn for letting us take over their space on this cool, summer evening!
My husband and I went to London and Paris a couple weeks ago to celebrate our 4th anniversary, and I just happen to have some friends who live there currently! I knew Lauren in college, but she was a couple years older so our paths didn't cross much. A couple years after graduating, we started following each other on social media because she is a portrait photographer as well. We've touched base every now and then to talk about business and the photography industry, so when I found out she was living in London, we immediately set up a photo swap session! I mean come one... the stars just aligned too perfectly, we couldn't pass up the opportunity! Thankfully our husbands were good sports and put up with our inability to do a "short" photo session, even though that might have been what we promised them.....
A sunny, Missouri wedding at the Weston Red Barn Farm with pastel colors, succulents, and the goofiest of wedding parties. For their wedding day, Holly and Chris envisioned a celebration! Having food, friends, family and dancing is the best combination... and especially since it was for the purpose of them uniting together! Holly wanted it to be special for the two of them and to feel every moment, the grass under her toes (because yes, she got married barefoot because she is awesome like that), watching Chris' facial expressions, laughing and smiling through their first dance because that's what he does to her, dancing with her best friend, and stuffing her face with cupcakes. In retrospect, I'd say her hopes and dreams for the day definitely came true ;)
