My husband and I went to London and Paris a couple weeks ago to celebrate our 4th anniversary, and I just happen to have some friends who live there currently! I knew Lauren in college, but she was a couple years older so our paths didn't cross much. A couple years after graduating, we started following each other on social media because she is a portrait photographer as well. We've touched base every now and then to talk about business and the photography industry, so when I found out she was living in London, we immediately set up a photo swap session! I mean come one... the stars just aligned too perfectly, we couldn't pass up the opportunity! Thankfully our husbands were good sports and put up with our inability to do a "short" photo session, even though that might have been what we promised them.....Read More
After a long journey with miscarriage, Brittany gave birth to a son. And then a year and a half later gave birth again… this time to these precious TWINS! Let's talk about STYLE, shall we?! Risa and Aaron kindly let me help them select their outfits in order to create elegant images that complemented the dazzling aesthetic of the city lights and I'm so in love with the results :) Here's to encouraging more of my clients to do their sessions in the city and use the excuse to dress up!!

When I first moved to Kansas City three and a half years ago, I ran a Groupon for only a few days. I wasn't sure that it was going to reach my ideal client and didn't want to cheapen the photography industry in any way so I was hesitant to do it at all, but since I hardly knew anyone in the area, I was desperate to meet people. I had four people buy the Groupon during that time including this family, but they have since continued to book sessions with me over the years and I couldn't be more grateful! I love that they are so consistent in getting photos taken of their kids all the way through high school. I think it's fantastic that they care about capturing these seasons that are often overlooked in the busyness of teenagers' lives because they will have so much to help them look back on, remember and share the journey with generations to come.
Ironwoods Park in Leawood, Kansas was a new location for me, but definitely one I'd be up for using again as it is convenient for anyone who lives South of the downtown area.

Wow. This fall has brought me in touch with so many incredible families in Kansas City, Northwest Arkansas and Colorado. This KC fam met me at the Liberty Memorial near Crown Center for their session, which happens to be one of my favorite places to shoot! The variety between trees, structure and the city as a backdrop never disappoints. Their kiddos are also at an age where they still think I'm cool, so I had that going for me ;) Lidia (the youngest) kept asking if my husband, Preston, and I could go to dinner with them sometime haha - so sweet! Frontier Park in Olathe, KS was the perfect backdrop for a fall photo session this past week with the Bell family. When people ask me what to wear for family photos, I typically suggest choosing one or two patterned pieces and then coordinating the rest of the colors to those instead of starting your pallet with one color. These guys did that without me even suggesting it! Perfect for a cool evening and perfect timing as the trees start to turn orange. I can't get enough of these fall sessions and love that people will have these images in time for Christmas cards!

I'm so ecstatic to share this session with you because it was the first session I've gotten to do of this sweet family now that there are FIVE of them! Breckyn is the absolute perfect addition to their little tribe and I just can't believe how fast time flies as I think back to our other sessions. Little Peyton's first birthday/cake smash session at Crystal Bridges (Bentonville, AR) feels like it was just yesterday, much a maternity session for Karlee before I even had my new website/blog!
We met at Tanyard Creek Trails in Bella Vista Arkansas on a beautiful Sunday morning for this shoot; one of my favorite spots in the area. The kids were a bit chilly, but managed to put up with me for an hour of walking and smiling:)

Delaney and I started this session shortly after sunrise in Divide, Colorado this past weekend. You'd never know it by how amazing and comfortable she look, but she is not a morning person and it was 38 degrees. BRRR! It was also incredibly foggy that day, but I didn't mind so much since the world was basically one giant softbox :) I flew to Colorado last Friday to shoot a wedding on Saturday and Delaney is actually the youngest sister of that bride! Needless to say, I got to spend quite a bit of time with this family and I couldn't have asked for the weekend to go better. The fact that her and her mom would get up for a sunrise shoot the morning after the wedding so I would still be in town is such an honor... not to mention Delaney hiked up to a waterfall in Green Mountain Falls with me!!
For those of you who don't know, I am originally from Colorado and lived in the same house in Woodland Park from the day I was born until I left for College. Naturally, I have a small obsession with the state and take every opportunity I can to go visit! Hopefully someday I will live there again, but for now my husband and I are greatly enjoying Kansas City.

I have had the pleasure of knowing Caitlin for many years. She is the sweetest, most kind person you may ever meet and I can't believe she chose me to take updated branding images for her graphic design business: Ember & Co!! It has been so fun to watch her business grow, from her education at Full Sail University to working for a large company as their in-house designer, to adding her freelance business on the side... and then when she took the leap to make her side hustle her full time gig!! I'm so proud of her and no joke, her stuff is Incredible. I even did a similar branding session for her several years ago so it was extra special to take some updated ones this weekend (check it out here if you're interested... she had purple/pink hair back then!).
So much talent and so wonderful to work with, you should definitely keep her in mind for any design needs you might have!! Ember & Co is a boutique design studio based in Denver, Colorado. Find out more info HERE!
I can't believe I have lived in Kansas City for 3 years (almost EXACTLY to the date) and had never been to Shawnee Mission Park! Definitely a photographer's haven because of how expansive it is... no need to worry about fighting for photo spots here :)
I finally got to meet Rachel and Jordan for their engagement session and they are so much fun! They brought their dogs which is always a bit challenging, but definitely fun! As a dog mom myself, I can't help but love that they wanted to include their fur-babies. I can't wait for their wedding this New Year's Eve - it's going to be a party!

WOW. I never knew how much FUN a destination family photo session would be!! I am still amazed at how I ended up shooting this session in Estes Park, Colorado all the way from Kansas City and it will definitely be one I remember forever! I'm reminded of John "Hannibal" Smith in the movie A-Team when he says "I love it when a plan comes together" ;)
Jenny (flowery dress) is a co-worker of mine at Visit KC and one day she asked me if I knew of any photographers in the Estes Park, Colorado area because her extended family was going to be vacationing there in a few months. They wanted to get family photos done with the mountains in the background (you can probably see where this is going). I told her I would ask around, but when she told me the dates they would be there, I realized that, somehow, it was the EXACT same week that I was going to be in Denver for my younger brother's wedding!! I'm an adventurous person and absolutely can't resist an excuse to get some mountain time, ESPECIALLY if it involves getting to take pictures of such wonderful people!! So, after all the wedding craziness, my little sis and I drove the hour from Denver up to Loveland and stayed with some friends. I think we got in about 11:00pm and hit the road for Estes at 6:00am the next morning in order to meet the Wilsons by 8:00. Maybe I am crazy... but these photos turned out SO much better than they would have in the afternoon when the sun was bright enough to wash out the background scenery. I'm in love with the pastel colors (thanks to the cloudy morning and Adobe Lightroom).

The snow storm in Colorado today has me mind boggled that I just did this Spring family photo session in Bentonville! All the trees were starting to bloom and I was quite comfortable in my short-sleeved shirt. I will say, I like snow but Colorado winters are just so darn LONG! I'm thankful for the flowery trees here too since winter mostly just bleeds straight into summer where I'm from.
The Duncan family sessions are always so special to me since I've had the great privilege of photographing them since their daughter Sloan was born 2.5 years ago. I did her newborn images, 1 year, 1.5 years etc. and have absolutely fallen in love with watching her grow up. Meghan and Austin are such amazing parents and, even though they are currently dealing with the "terrible twos," they treat their daughter with love and patient guidance. I just know she is going to grow into the most stunning, amazing woman someday!
I think Meghan's hair is definitely worth mentioning too... I mean, COME ON. Who DOESN'T wish we could pull that off?!?!
This Kansas City photographer finally took her own advice and got some updated family photos while we were in Colorado Springs. Of course we had to include our 3 year old pup, they wouldn't have been the same otherwise!Read More
